Most people think of Thanksgiving when they hear someone say, November. What else is important about November? For some it may be decorations and starting their holiday shopping and preparations but what should be at the top of everyone's list is VOTING! November 6th is such an important day for our country! I'm sure everyone sees the signs on the side of the road and all of the political commercials and yes, they can be very annoying!
It is so crucial to do your research on each
candidate for each electing office. Information is so readily available that
there is no excuse to not be informed of who shares your same views
and opinions for your community, county, state and country!
You can simply go to VoteUSA.org, Vote411.org and VoteSmart.org
to look up your state and county and get information on the
ballot. You can even register and print off a sample ballot to take with you to
the polls and be totally prepared!
Some people think their vote doesn't count
or so many people will vote that it doesn't matter if they do or don't. That is
so untrue! Some offices can be elected by less than TEN votes! A commissioner's
office in Florida, 2016, was placed in their position by only five votes. That's like one family
driving to the polls together and placing that person in office for their
community. That is how important it is to go out and vote. So many men and
women fought for our right to vote and not too long ago did African Americans
and women earn their right to go to the polls. Women gained the ability to help
decide the course of their communities, states and country in 1920 and even
closer to today did African Americans earn their right to vote in 1965!
We owe
it to those that fought for our freedoms and those that worked so hard to give
that right to everyone so they can GET OUT AND VOTE!
