October 2020 Reading!

The seasons are changing, the leaves are falling, and the kids are spending more time inside. Why not use that time to learn about our democratic society, our responsibility as a citizen, or simply enjoy seasonal books. 

Sharing books of the season, character awareness, and current events encourages reading at home and school as well as promotes family engagement, learning, and fun. Although books are not limited by age, the following are appropriate for K-2 reading levels. Happy Fall Y’all.

Election Resources!

Democrats, Republicans, Liberals… no matter what you believe, your opinion will not make a difference unless you place your vote. “Citizenship” -  is a big word for little minds to fully understand. Yet, the teaching of pride, respect, and responsibility to one's hometown, state, and country instils comradery and a sense of individual importance. 

Pretend play, a childhood favorite, centered on the election and voting can teach students the importance of voting as well as the importance of forming an opinion, expressing your thoughts, respecting others’ opinions, using humility in loss and success, and the importance of every single vote. 

Most tasks of adulthood are exciting and prominent through a child’s eyes. Perhaps, the excitement students take home regarding the upcoming election can in itself encourage parents to take the step of voting.
