We
have always found that the heart is the one shape that everyone knows when
entering pre-k and kindergarten. Why? Is it just because it is a heart? Who
knows? But since Valentine’s Day is a day that is eagerly anticipated by our
students, we worked with hearts every which way we could think of! From
listening to hearts to writing on hearts; it was definitely a hearts galore
week! Plus we gave our hearts away to Mr. Hatch, the wonderful character from the popular story, Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch. Check out the heart filled activities!
We
listened to our hearts with stethoscopes. We wrote on hearts using conversation hearts,
and then we got to eat them! We
used all different shapes and sizes of hearts to make our own puppets. Here are some
great fine motor activities: Squeezing
heart shaped sponges, unlocking my heart! (a great find from a euro store), Picking
up pasta shaped hearts with tweezers and putting the correct number of hearts
on a pipe cleaner using Valentine’s Day cards. (Use two cards for addition!)
