Oh my goodness, it
is February and that means it’s time to talk about Groundhog Day! Well, we totally missed that boat with
parent/teacher/student conferences and math inservices happening on February 2nd
and February 3rd; fortunately there are plenty of conversations that
can occur based on Punxsutawney Pete.
We plan to continue our
conversations about animals that hibernate during the season of winter and what
it means when Punxsutawney Pete comes out of hibernation to look for his
shadow. What is a groundhog? Does he
really predict whether winter is going to last for six more weeks or if spring
is going to be here earlier? What causes the shadow to appear or not to appear?
How can you make a shadow and what do you need? What are some signs of spring
that we can look for?
We may have missed
the actual Groundhog Day, but we did lots of activities planned in honor of
Punxsutawney Pete and will continue on this week!
