This year, more than ever, the gift of giving and service to others is so important. We are all faced with a plethora of typical stresses daily; however, now each stress is exacerbated by the uncertainty, fear, and anxiety over the coronavirus. Financial strain, social distancing, and lost loved ones will greatly impact family Christmas traditions leaving unmet desires in its wake. Now is a time of need and a perfect time to teach the importance of giving and service. We must be creative and careful in our actions.
Although we won’t be hugging a teacher, we can make them homemade stress balls. We won’t visit the nursing home to sing with elderly; but, we can decorate their windows with Christmas cheer. We can say thank you more often to essential workers. We can even donate our old toys to families we know who have hit hard times helping with financial strain and the struggle to social distance while shopping deals. The method of teaching life lessons may change from time to time but the moral mustn't be lost.
I wish you and your families a very healthy and happy holiday! As you celebrate the holiday season with immediate family, please send a thought and a prayer to all of our military men and women who cannot be with their families during the holidays. Don’t forget to rest and relax in preparation for a new and hopeful year.
